Steak is the hardest thing on any menu to shoot. Under harsh kitchen lights a medium-rare ribeye reads grey, the crust goes flat, and the rendered fat that makes it look juicy disappears into shadow. Most steakhouses end up with photos that make a $40 cut look like cafeteria food. PlateRefresh relights the steak you actually cooked: it brings back the warmth in the meat, sharpens the cross-hatch sear marks, and lifts the gloss on the surface so the cut looks rested and ready. It never adds char, never fakes a thicker cut, never invents grill lines that weren't there. The steak the diner sees is the steak that lands on the table.

Make medium-rare look medium-rare

Cameras flatten red meat. A perfect pink centre turns brown-grey, and the whole plate looks overcooked before a customer even reads the price. PlateRefresh restores the true colour of the cut and warms the lighting so the interior glows the way it does on the cutting board. Same doneness you served, finally visible. That accuracy matters when someone is choosing a steak on Uber Eats or Deliveroo from a thumbnail.

Sear marks, gloss, and rim light

The two things that sell a steak are the crust and the shine. We sharpen the Maillard sear without scorching it darker than reality, then add a soft warm rim light along the top edge so the cut lifts off the plate. Compound butter stays glossy, peppercorn crust stays textured. The board, the bone, the jus all get the same restaurant lighting treatment in one pass.

One shot, every platform

Shoot once at the pass, get a frame that works as a hero image on your site, a delivery tile on DoorDash, and a square for Instagram. No light kit, no tripod, no second person holding a bounce card. Because the food stays true, the photo you post is the plate the guest receives, which keeps you onside with delivery-platform image rules instead of fighting them.

FAQ

Good to know.

Will the steak still look like the cut I actually serve?

Yes. PlateRefresh relights and colour-corrects the steak in your photo. It does not generate a different cut, thicken it, or add grill marks that weren't there. The doneness and portion stay exactly what you plated, just lit properly.

Can it fix a medium-rare that photographed grey?

That is the core job. Kitchen and phone cameras desaturate red meat. We restore the true interior colour and warm the lighting so a medium-rare reads as medium-rare, without ever pushing it to look raw or overdone.

Do I need professional gear to get a usable photo?

No. A clean phone photo taken at the pass is enough. Frame the plate, keep the lens clean, and shoot. The relight handles lighting, colour, background and surface, so you don't need a softbox or a tripod.
